What's the Time Mr Wolf? (A Mathematical Resources Package)
The Package of Mathematical Resources called WHAT'S THE TIME MR WOLF? can be accessed digitally here at this website and also in hard copy form as a kit. It can also be used in conjunction with this website.
Sequencing the Activities and Strategies
It is imperative that students learn and attempt these strategies and activities in sequence as knowledge and skills are scaffolded in order for students to be able to use prior knowledge and experiences to assist learning (Booker, Bond, Sparrow and Swan, 2010). ACARA (2012) has also sequenced learning of time through the year levels in the measurement and geometry strand. Below is a sequencing order to develop time concepts for students.
WHAT'S THE TIME MR WOLF (Digital)
This digital version allows students to access the following links. The links are educational digital games that assist students to build strategies and confidence to tell the time. Remember that the sequencing is important. Click on the links to go to the activity sheet to print out or interactive website.

- Adding and Subtracting 2 digit numbers (teachers should develop these skills in numeracy prior to teaching students about time).
- Allow students to practice skip counting in 5's and 10's. Extend the content to dividing up the clock face in 5 minute, 10 minute, 15 minute and 30 minute intervals.
- Use language terms such as AM, PM, morning, afternoon, evening, night, midnight, midday, noon and associate these terms with the time of day or night.
- Use timers such as egg timers and stopwatches to time how long things take so there is a relation between time and real experiences.
- Identifying the hour hand, the minute hand and the second hand, and relating them to reading clock times on the hour. Use both digital and analogue clocks.
- Read clock times after the hour in 5 minute intervals through 1 hour. Read from both digital and analogue clocks and show the connection of them being the same time.
- Associate hour numerals 3, 6, 9 with minutes 15, 30 and 45.
- Extend and associate the other hour numerals to their corresponding minute amounts. For example the 2 is 10 minutes.
